Event: Young Investigator Meeting 2011, Boston, USA

YIM Boston 2011 Information

YIM Boston is a premier platform for interaction between the bright young Indian scientists abroad (from diverse backgrounds of biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and engineering) with the representatives from prestigious Indian academic institutions, industries, government and funding agencies to exchange ideas about the growing opportunities back in India. The previous YIMs in Boston have been highly successful and we have experienced a remarkable increase in the participation from the young enthusiastic graduate students and post-doctoral researchers: over 200 participants attended the event in 2009 and around 400 in 2010. We are expecting even a larger audience this year.

YIM Boston will take place at MIT during 08-10 October 2011. Our meeting runs in two phases: open and closed sessions. A full day of ‘open session’ on 8th October (Saturday) would provide an opportunity for the speakers from academic institutes, industries and funding bodies in showcasing their scientific activities and achievements to all the attendees. The next two days of ‘closed session’ (9th and 10th October; Sunday and Monday) will be open only to the participating institute directors/faculties, representatives of the industry and funding agencies, and around 50 selected candidates in order to provide opportunities for one-to-one interactions. These candidates will represent various disciplines including, but not restricted to, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering. YIM adapts a rigorous procedure in the selection of candidates for the closed session, involving faculties from the participating Indian institutes, MIT and Harvard University. Last year, 30 speakers and 15 poster presenters were selected from a pool of nearly 300 highly talented applicants from all over the USA and some from Europe.

We are proud to inform that out of the 30 selected speakers for the closed session in YIM Boston 2009, 24 have already returned back to India as junior faculties. Many of the candidates from last year’s event are actively interviewing for jobs in India or are in the process of transition.

Registering to attend the open session (08 October, 2011) and information for applying to participate in the closed session (09-10 October, 2011) can be found at http://www.yimboston.org/
