Director of IndiaBioscience.org

We are seeking a talented, creative and independent PhD-level Director of IndiaBioscience.org to be based at the National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore.

Responsibilities:

  1. The Director, working with a scientific advisory board, will manage content for the web site, seeking interesting new material/information and projecting the dynamic and interesting landscape of the life sciences in India.  The Director will reach out to scientists and institute directors within India and internationally and will work closely with web designers to produce a web site that will be interesting to visit on a regular basis.
  2. Help, along with a YIM committee, to organize the Young  Investigator Meeting.
  3. Establish new initiatives to improve scientific communication and education in India (including new meetings and workshops).  This will expand the role of the “independent” IndiaBioscience program and involve writing grants to support these efforts.

We are seeking a Ph.D. who is an excellent scientist but also has strong interests and skills in public policy and journalism.  The Director must be outgoing, independent, and proficient in project management.

To apply, please send:

  1. your CV (including the names and email addresses of 2-3 references),
  2. 2-3 letters of recommendation sent to the email address below, and
  3. a 1-2 page “vision statement” of how you imagine IndiaBioscience growing and improving in the future, along the lines described above.  Also indicate why you are interested in this position and feel well-qualified to conduct this work.

Please send this material to:

ibs-job@ncbs.res.in

Referees can send their letters independently to the above email address.

We will collect applications and arrange interviews through the end of August. However, if you are interested, we encourage you to apply early as it is possible that we will terminate the search if we find the “perfect” candidate.  There is flexibility in the start date, although fall of 2010 would be ideal.
