UGC Faculty Recharge Programme-A unique effort and a novel opportunity
UGC Faculty Recharge programme is a unique and a novel effort on behalf of UGC to revitalize the massive university system in India. UGC which is the supreme regulatory body for higher education in India has launched this program with a goal to attract highly motivated individuals with a passion for teaching and research to join the university system in field of basic sciences (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth sciences) and  Engineering.
This programme will provide a big thrust and rejuvenate the research and teaching programs especially in the languishing State Universities.  It is also a first of its kind attempt where the appointments are being made at all levels - Assistant/Associate and full Professor and the extension of tenure is suggested to be purely based on peer evaluation after 5yrs.
The programme has an online application system. Selected candidates will receive a competitive start-up grant and also be placed in a host institution depending on their preferences, response of the host institution and availability of infrastructure. Salaries are in keeping with the Govt. grade pay scale along with other facilities (e.g. accommodation) to be extended by the host institution.

Inspire Faculty Scheme -- 1000 faculty each year (Non-renewable, 5 year term)
On the heels of a very successful Inspire Scholarship for Higher Education programme comes the Assured Opportunity for Research Careers for scientists in basic and applied sciences (*including engineering and medicine). The scheme provides doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships. Contractual research positions are offered to scientists with a PhD (27-32 yrs) under this scheme. This would serve to augment scientific manpower in institutions and provide opportunities for independent research.

This scheme is open to Indian citizens (including NRI/PIO). Applications can be forwarded by academic institutions/industry R&D or the candidate can apply directly to the scheme. A host-institute cannot nominate its own PhD students. The applicant needs to find an appropriate host institution anywhere in India for pursuing the INSPIRE Faculty assignment.
