Professor Anuradha Lohia is the CEO of The Wellcome Trust/ DBT India Alliance, an independent funding agency set up as a partnership between The Wellcome Trust, UK and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. With a corpus of $120 million USD for the first five years, the India Alliance has been created to support outstanding biomedical researchers to pursue a research career in India. Through generous and flexible fellowships the India Alliance hopes to seed the next generation of science leaders in India. Professor Lohia's research interests are in the area of cell cycle regulation of Entamoeba histolytica and her laboratory is based at Bose Institute, Kolkata. She is a recipient of several prestigious awards, notably the Rockefeller Foundation Biotechnology Career Fellowship, the National Woman Bioscientist Award and is an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences.
