| Postdoctoral Research Scholar - Neuroscience/Neurophysiology/Tumor-Nerve Crosstalk |
| Pharmacology |
| The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine |
| Iowa City, IA |
| Job description |
|
A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available immediately to study the regulation of expression, trafficking, localization and functions of voltage-gated Na+ and ligand-gated TRP channels by diverse cellular signal transduction pathways that are initiated by factors released from tumor/microenvironment. The laboratory's research is geared towards thorough understanding of tumor-nerve crosstalk via neuronal ion channel modulations that underlie cellular plasticity and regulation of electrical excitability of neurons, in relation to cancer-induced pain and tumor-induced seizure conditions. The laboratory utilizes multidisciplinary approach, which include primary neuronal cultures/co-cultures, biochemical, cell/molecular biological, immunohistochemical, pharmacological and electrophysiological techniques, as well as diverse rodent behavioral assessments in a number of genetically-modified mouse models. The laboratory has its own tissue culture, biochemical, cell/molecular biological, electrophysiological, microscopy and rodent behavioral analysis facilities. In addition, the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine has outstanding core research (microscopy & imaging, histopathological, genomic, proteomic and transgenic) facilities, for the rapid advancement of research work. |
| Qualifications |
|
Applicant must be highly motivated individual possessing a PhD or MD/PhD degree with thorough training/experience preferably in patch-clamp electrophysiology, as well as have very good knowledge in basic cell physiology, as evidenced from peer-reviewed research publications. Experience in intracellular or field potential recordings in brain/spinal cord slices, and any of the above-mentioned techniques will be an added advantage. Graduate students close to completing their doctoral degree in next couple of months are strongly encouraged to apply. |
